Just Ask: Heatpump

The challenge

People near us often ask about heat pumps. It is not an easy leap, because there is so much to weigh up. I set out to build a free, honest guide that helps people picture a heat pump in their own home.

Process

I started with our own experience of getting one installed. It had moments nobody warned us about, such as a gap in one range of unit sizes that left our house between two options. I turned those into plain-English guides. They cover whether to get one, what installation is like, a checklist for getting ready, and how to pay for it.

Spec sheets list millimetres and decibels, but people want to picture the unit in their garden. So I built three tools. The size tool shows models side by side at true scale, with a person for reference. The footprint tool shows the clear space a unit needs. The noise tool puts sound figures next to each other.

I kept the design calm and simple, so anyone can read it. The language is plain, with no jargon and no sales pitch. I built the tools as code components in Framer, with help from Claude. I also marked up the pages with schema.org, so search engines and AI tools can recognise and use the content. And I added Pulse, short dated round-ups of what people are saying about heat pumps right now.

Results

The site is live and free to use at justask-heatpump.com. It has three tools, four guides, our story and a Pulse section. I have shared it on Nextdoor, LinkedIn and locally, and I am now gathering feedback.

Key learnings

Honest experience builds trust, and seeing the real size of a unit helps more than reading its measurements. I designed everything around those two ideas.
